I’m hooked already! Keep it up.

I was in a long conversation with a couple of friends a few days ago about generalizations and stereotypes in Christianity and society. It was cool to hear some of the same thoughts that were brought up again.

Generalizations. That was the church as I understood it. Many issues were generalized. It was an us vs. them mentality.

What does a church community look like that can encompass all points of view? Can a church handle different perspectives politically, socially etc.? Is there something bigger than all of our differences that can unite us?

You might be interested in Rob Bell’s teaching from this past Sunday (12/18/05). It is about this very topic. The teaching centers around the war in Iraq and falls right in line with your discussion.

Thanks Ryan. I’ve downloaded but haven’t listed yet. I’m looking forward to it.

I think most of us dream of a church without generalizations, but this will always be an ideal because our our tendency to genrealize things. That’s not to say that it’s not an idea worth pursuing. I think that we have to continue to be willing to ask the hard questions to see what boxes we are putting ourselves, and God, into.
